Once upon a time, on an island far, far away…

I could actually start this post just like that.

When your Prince Charming propose to you on a secluded island in Fiji during a surprise trip, isn’t it a true fairy tale?

Yes, that what I thought!

If being together is simply our favourite place to be, when your proposal happens on a tropical island paradise in the South Pacific…

… set amidst palm trees overlooking sparkling blue oceans, …

… you cannot stop thinking you are really the luckiest girl on the planet.

But let’s go back to the start of this trip which marks the beginning of a brand new chapter in our life.

12th April 2012. We are heading to the airport and I still have no idea of the destination. Simon has planned a trip which was meant to be a belated Valentine’s present.
When I finally see on the departure board that we are about to fly to Fiji Islands, I am thrilled. Simon remembered our first backpacking trip to Australia over 7 years ago when I mentioned I would love to go to Fiji Islands but we didn’t have enough money to afford the flight back then.

What I didn’t know was that a tornado had hit Fiji islands a week earlier. Flights had been cancelled and Simon hesitated until the last minute whether or not to cancel our trip.
His sense of adventure overcame any concerns and we boarded the plane anyway.
When we reached Nadi International Airport, we could tell that the place was still recovering from the recent disaster.
We visited the colourful Sri Siva Subramaniya, the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere.

We strolled around the peaceful Garden of the Sleeping Giant, with about 2,000 varieties of orchids, palm trees, coconut trees and other tropical plants spanning about 20 hectares of the Sabeto Mountain Range foothills.

After 2 nights in Nadi, it was now time to take the ferry for what will be our love nest for the week, Navutu Stars Fiji in the Yasawa Islands.

A boutique resort accommodating a maximum of 20 guests in peak season!

16th April 2012. He popped the question. With tears running down my cheeks, I said “yes”. Yes to a lifetime with him. Yes to a lifetime of smiles, travels and most importantly love.

We spent a romantic night under the stars as we toasted to a bright future together.

We spent the rest of the holidays wandering around the tiny island, sunbathing, enjoying the pure white sand squeaking under our toes, …

… and snorkelling in the amazing Fijian coral reefs, spying a plethora of marine life in the warm and stunning azure waters of the South Pacific.
Paddling around the surrounding tiny islands, we felt just like Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins in The Blue Lagoon as we passed by some of the breathtaking movie shooting locations.

It is now time to leave our secluded paradise in style.

We take off with our private air chauffeur as we admire the timeless beauty of Fiji from the air.
The most romantic proposal ever!

Next time, I’ll tell you more about where our wedding will actually take place.
